I want to make my highschool dance team, but I have absolutely no experience?

I’ve never done aaanything athletic/team oriented, so I really want to try to make dance team next school year?
I’m going to be a junior. All my life I’ve focused on getting good grades, and that’s about it. I take all enriched classes and am in the top 5% of my class, and I don’t have any major extra curriculars to put on my college resume. I’ve never tried out for a sports team, and I’ve never thought of doing anything athletic/team related, but I’ve always admired highschool dancers. I’d love to be on the dance team of my highschool next year.

I have absolutely no experience in dancing, but I consider myself a fast learner. Tryouts are near the beginning of next school year, so I have all summer to prepare myself.

What should I do? I reeeeeeally want to make it.
It would be such a suprise to myself, my friends, and my family.
I don’t think aaanyone would expect me to be on dance team! (:

    I recently tried out (with very little experience) and did not make it.
    But all the girls who tried out at my school were GOOD if not EXCEPTIONAL

    I have a friend who’s first time ever dancing was in the school drill-prep course– and made it– TWICE
    (i’m jealous)

    If you start now, you’ll have your splits and high kicks. All I can suggest is enrolling in a dance class.
    You can not teach yourself dance.
    (I assume you mean jazz dance)

    Get some dance DVDs or aerobics dance mix exercise lessons and learn the dance steps. This will help to pick up the dance steps and choreography quickly. Practice memorizing a few routines. When you try out for the team, they will usually teach you the dance for the tryout, and then you will audition with the dance. Practice high kicks, toe points, your hand positions, and doing the move precisely and perfectly when the others do the move, If you can take dance aerobics in the gym and work on perfecting the moves and timing in the gym mirrors, that will help you feel and know where your arms and body is while you do the dance moves. When you try out, look and dress the part, show your energy and smile. Find out what others are wearing for make-up, hair, clothes for try-out and look like you are a good fit for the team.
