What do you have to do for the high school dance team?

I am going to be a ninth grader next year and I want to join the dance team. I’ve never been in competition dance before, but I’ve danced for almost ten years and done tap, jazz, and ballet. I’m pretty good, but I haven’t danced for two years. I think that I’m going to take summer classes at my old studio.
I was wondering what you have to do to try out for the high school dance team, and what it’s like. Thanks!

for a high school team it depends on how your school thinks of dance. if they dont really think of it as a big thing it will be pretty easy and most of the time they dont even kick people out but if they really think of it as a serious thing you need to be really good at jump spilts turns especially they all like people that can turn really well. I would watch some dance shows to learn to do some new complicated things that you would not learn at a regular dance studio. Hope this helps

From my experience, I tried out for several different teams in high school but they’re pretty similar to each other, It really depends on how the captain or someone who has a higher rank hosts the try-out. They’ll most likely teach everyone a choreography or section and you have about a few weeks to practice it. And on the day of the try-outs they’ll probably make you perform it solo, in groups, or so on. And not likely, but perhaps a solo. I hope this helps!

Oh, and check for more information for tryouts (like summer try-outs,etc.) from your high school team so you can be on the team when you’re already a ninth grader if they permit eight graders to be a tryoutee
