Ice Dancing Musical Selection?

I’m a competitive ice dancer. My partner and I have been competeing together (both on our second partnerships) for seven years this month. We used to pairs skate, but now mainly do ice dancing (sort of ballroom dancing on ice, to simplify things greatly).

We’re doing this benefit in the summer, not a standard competition. Therefore, no CD/OD/FD regulations. We’re skating three dances, one must have a latin feel (think Cha-Cha/Samba/Rumba), one must have more of a traditional ballroom feel (think Waltz/Tango/Foxtrot), and the other is a freestyle. We need songs for each.

What we’d like:

Latin: Sexual undertones (without being unappropriate), passionate, medium tempo.
Ballroom: Slower tempo, more lovey-dovey then passionate.
Freestyle: FUN! Fast tempo.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Rosefern
Right now, we’re looking at:

Freestyle: I Love You (Martina McBride)
Ballroom: The End of the World (David Campbell)

However, more suggestions are welcome!

I’m terribly addicted to medicine, any helpful advice? I really need it?

I’m a dancer and I dance about 12 hours a week or so, and I always hurt. My body aches so badly all the time. It gets worse in rainy weather too. I take A prescription medicine I take called Meloxicam. I’m supposed to take one every night but lately it hasn’t helped so i take 3 a day, it seems to help but now I seem to pop these pills all the time. When I hurt, when i’m upset, hungry, tired, or just bored. I’m getting addicted and i need advice on how to stop before it gets even worse. By the way nobody knows I’m doing this, because I have not told an adult.

Is there hope for someone who has no rhythm?

My s/o is a pretty good dancer and wants to dance with me when we go out. I have NO rhythm and am extremely embarassed to try to dance in front of people. Would dance lessons help or is rhythm something you either have or don’t and there isn’t much you can do about it?

Does anyone else feel social dancing is dying across America?

Honestly. I’ve been doing this sport for about 5 years now, mostly as a social activity but I also take lessons and practice a LOT. I find that most new dancers are quickly attracted to studios where they spend a bunch of money and burn out. Some with a larger bankroll will go to competitions. These things are like a “kangaroo court” for dance studio businesses. The women (or men) will typically practice choreographed routines for hours on end with their INSTRUCTOR then go show what they’ve perfected. This does NOT make a good dancer! Perhaps a good showman or woman, NOT a good or skilled dancer. Ballroom, latin, and most all social dances are based in lead and follow and it’s a proven fact you can’t learn that unless you dance continously with dancers of all levels for years on end and NOT as an instructor! Few if any studios direct students to social dancing which is the ONLY way to be a good dancer of this sort. I understand they did direct students better years ago.

Need help with a dance partner who wont commit?

Hello,

I am trying to get ready for a swing performance at my dad’s wedding (in mid-October) My friend is a very good dancer and will be my partner. Problem is, although he’s agreed to doing this and practice with me, he can be hard to get a hold of/make plans. I’ve already bought the shoes and a nice, unreturnable dress and I just dont know how to deal with him in a civil/effective way.
I have a feeling like he’s not commited to this project that means so much to me; I’m worried that he’ll keep putting off practices or even bail.
Please give me advice.
